NEAR TO THE HEART OF GOD

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

Keeping a consistent daily quiet time with God is one of the hardest things we face in our Christian life. Why? Because our adversary the devil, knows that therein lays the secret of our strength and victory as believers. If he can get us off track, our power and wisdom are diminished, therefore, it’s essential to develop the habit of regularly meeting with God.

Determine the time of day that works best for you and don’t put anything else in its place. Every day I write in my appointment book things that need to be done, meetings to attend and places to go. Shouldn’t my meeting the King of Kings be important enough to put on my daily agenda?

A THANKFUL HEART

Thanksgiving Image - PumpkinsPsalm 68:19
Blessed be the Lord who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.

Psalm 68 is an interesting passage. It was intended to be used in worship by Israel as a song of victory and deliverance. It recounts the many difficulties they endured and speaks of them being afflicted, oppressed, helpless, sinful, and exposed to hurt and pain; yet this Psalm recalls that God provided for His people in the tough wilderness wanderings and in the days of bountiful blessing in the Promised Land of Canaan. In both the good times and the bad, God blessed them and cared for them. In this passage, His people recognize that and thank Him for it.

STRENGTH FOR THE DAY

SunsetII Corinthians 12:10
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Looking through my files this week I came across a poem that has blessed my heart time and time again. I’d like to share it with you hoping that it will bless your heart, too.

ONE DAY AT A TIME
By Annie Johnson Flint

One day at a time, with its failures and fears,
With its hurts and mistakes, with its weakness and tears,
With its portion of pain and its burden of care;
One day at a time we must meet and must bear.

CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK

Kids ReadingNovember 12-18 is Children’s Book Week. It’s a time set aside to encourage children in the enjoyment of reading. As a former elementary school teacher, I know the value of teaching a youngster to read, and the challenges that sometimes go with it. For years I’ve said, “If you teach a child to read, you equip him for life.

Reading is something that we take for granted in our country because public education offers it to everyone; however in many countries that’s not true. At this Thanksgiving season, let’s stop and thank God for this precious gift. Let’s offer Him praise for the many resources and materials we have available to us. Let’s take advantage of this time to encourage our young people to develop and enjoy the ability to read, and let’s provide them wholesome materials to enjoy and to bolster their faith in God.
