VACATION TIME

Exodus 33:14
And He said, “My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.”

It’s vacation time! Now that schools are out, people are packing their bags and leaving home for those precious days away from full schedules and the normal routine, and heading to the beach, the mountains, or the homes of relatives.

In Old Testament days, many people believed that their gods only had power over certain geographic territories. Beyond those boundaries, they could not hear or act on behalf of the people. For those who traveled or moved away from a specific region, their gods could not go with them.

What an awesome thought that my God is not limited by time or space! Knowing that He is present with me at all times is a great comfort. It means that in every city, county, state, country, and on every continent, God is there. His power to guide, comfort, protect and provide for me never changes. I don’t have to worry about ever getting outside of His reach when I go on vacation!

But knowing that God is with me at all times, can also be a great deterrent to living carelessly. It seems that some folks think, “When I’m away from home, I can go places and do things I wouldn’t ordinarily do as a Christian. Nobody knows me so I can do whatever I want and it’s OK.” No it’s not! Others will see and be affected by your testimony even if they don’t know you; but most importantly God will see and know. Don’t take a vacation from living for Him!

God, You are so great! Thank You that no matter where I go You will be there with me. Help me always to live in every place the same, reflecting Your love and holiness.
