Take Nothing for the Journey

Philippians 4:6-7
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (NKJV)

In these days when the economy is so unstable, and things are so uncertain, the stock market is rocky and the job market is tight, it is easy to worry about money and about not having enough.

Listen to what Jesus told His disciples when He sent them out to do His ministry: He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He said to them, "Take nothing for the journey, neither staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money, and do not have two tunics apiece. What ever house you enter, stay there and from there depart."

Jesus gave them power and He gave them authority, but He told them they did not need to take anything with them. Those things would be supplied by the people with whom they stayed, He said. How would people do that? Of course, God would touch their hearts and give them that generous sprit. That was all a part of the ministry in those days. It took a lot of faith, in my opinion, for those disciples to go out, not even taking food. But they went, they obeyed, and their needs were supplied.

We read in Philippians 4:6-7, "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

If you are having a financial difficulty right now, trust God. First of all let your need be made known to Him. Look around at the resources that are available to you, perhaps He will use one of those. But, don't expect it necessarily because God can do amazing things from places that we never would have dreamed. On those uncertain days, let your requests be known unto God, and trust Him as the disciples did. Let Him touch the hearts of others. Let Him use resources around you. Let Him meet your needs in extraordinary ways, and then praise Him.
