Near to the Heart of God

By Cleland B. McAfee, 1866-1944
Draw nigh unto God and He will draw nigh unto you. --James 4:8

There is a place of quiet rest,
Near to the heart of God,
A place where sin cannot molest,
Near to the heart of God.

O Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us who wait before Thee
Near to the heart of God.

There is a place of comfort sweet,
Near to the heart of God,
A place where we our Savior meet,
Near to the heart of God.

O Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us who wait before Thee
Near to the heart of God.

There is a place of full release,
Near to the heart of God,
A place where all is joy and peace,
Near to the heart of God.

O Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us who wait before Thee
Near to the heart of God.

The key to a joyful and meaningful spiritual life is having a close relationship with God. First you must know Him as your Savior. Then daily seek to draw close to Him by spending time with Him in prayer and by reading His Word. The heart that is tender toward the Savior will submit all it’s cares and concerns to Him, surrender to His desire to work in the life, and obey His leading. For more thoughts on how you can draw near to God, read Hannah Whitall Smith’s classic book The Christian’s Secret of a Happy Life.
