God's Sovereignty

Psalm 89:11
The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; the world and all its fullness, You have founded them.

This morning when I pulled the curtains open in my bedroom I happened to look out at the rhododendron bush just outside the window and noticed, for the first time this year, the large buds that are forming all over the bush. That was a reminder to me that spring is on the way, and it sure made my day!

I have been noticing over the last few days that there are signs of spring coming up everywhere. There are daffodils just right outside the office, and some behind my house as well. I have seen the crocuses coming up, and even pansies that have been lying dormant for a while are turning green again.

All around us are signs of spring. Why did I not notice this sooner? Well, if you remember, we have had snow - lots and lots of snow. The snow was covering the ground. We did not see anything that was going on. But you know, underneath all of the snow, spring was still coming. God's plan for the earth was still unfolding, and the flowers and the bulbs were just coming forth as they always do. But we missed it; I missed it, because the snow was in the way and covering up the blessing that was going on there.

You know, it was a surprise to me when I saw the buds, when I saw the flowers coming up, but it was no surprise to God. It was a part of His plan. He set this plan in order when He formed and fashioned the world. In Psalm 89:11 it says, "The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; the world and all its fullness, You have founded them."

That verse is telling us that everything belongs to God - all of creation, the world and all that is in it. He made it. There are no surprises with God. He is the Creator, the Master Designer, not only in nature, but in your life and mine. He has a plan in mind, and He's going to work that plan one way or the other as we allow Him. He will do it even though it may seem difficult for us to comprehend. There are no surprises with God.

The next time your day is filled with interruptions, and they come as a surprise to you and frustrate you, take heart because there are no surprises with God. He knows the end from the beginning. Why not commit your day to Him each morning and say, "Lord, whatever happens in this day, I am going to look at it as something You already know about. I am going to ask You to handle it for me because there are no surprises for You." My friend, take heart. Trust God. Let Him fill your days with His joy as you find His peace.
